Happy Holidays
Well, I’m feeling the Christmas spirit but have been hit head on by a frieght train of events that has me wondering what the HECK JUST HAPPENED
. The dust is just now clearing and we (my mom and I) are beginning to see the light. This critter, MITZY, wrapped her leash around my moms legs and cause her to loose her balance and fall and she broke her femer bone completely through. I had gone out to run some errands and we were going to go shopping and see if we could get our pictures with santa and the pooch at the local Care A Lot. I called home to see if she was getting ready and that I would take the dog out. Well she decided to do that and the accident happened. She didn’t answer the phone and something told me to beat feet home. I got there and she was on the floor crying. I realized it was serious and called 911. It all just kept going after that and several days later. An unpleasant stay in the hospital, surgery, I got a bad cold during it all, and its like what the heck just happened. You never plan for these things and when they happen you end up learning alot about, insurance, hospitals, rehab centers etc. Finally she is settled in a rehab center near the house and I’m getting ready to go see her. She looks so much better and like the place and the people are so nice. The hospital was a nitemare. She was getting rashes on her legs and bottom that they just were not treating. I had to change her bedpan several times and could see that the rashes were getting worse. So I just wanted her out of there. It’s amazing to me what some people are like that are doctors and nurses. Some were great but there were some that were like, WHY DID YOU GO INTO NURSING, WHY! It will take a while for her to get back in the swing of things but I can see her improving already just from the second day of being there. I just feel so bad about having brought the dog into the house but friends have told me she could have fallen for some other reason. We did find out through all of this that she has a vitamin D deficiency and osteoporosis so that will need attending too. I think I’ll get the pooches shots and get her fixed and find a nice home for her since I don’t want a repeat. So that is why I haven’t been on here in awhile. Hope you all are having a nice holiday season. We had a little bit of snow the other day and it was nice to see. HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Ooohhh, that is just horrible!!! I hope she is feeling so much better quickly. And yes, she could have fallen at any time for other reasons don’t blame the poor pooch (even though it is probably the dogs fault for wrapping her up
) Good for you for zipping right home and then being there for your mom in the hospital too! You know you can write out a big ol complaint and file it with the hospital too, about all the things like the rashes and the bedpan not being emptied! That stuff makes me so mad and usually people are going through so much at the time that things like that just get over looked again and again! But if you make sure you add your moms name, and the dates she was in, and her room number, they can look up which nurses were on what shifts, and get them either more training, or a bad mark on their record so come review time they get whats coming to them!
Now all you need to do is settle back and get through the holidays and relax a bit!!! Hope your cold goes away quickly too. We had some here and it only lasted three or four days! Sniffles and coughs. If your mom is in a nursing home like setting, see if you can get a guest ticket for Christmas dinner there!!! Nursing home food is *yummy*!!!
I feel so bad for your mom. I hope she’s feeling better soon.
She needs to be taking calcium. I recommend Citracal Plus with minerals. It has vitamin D, which she needs, of course the calcium, and the other minerals that will make it easier on her digestion, while providing the minerals she needs to balance the calcium.
She also needs to take something to help build up her bones. The doctors will try to get her to take Fosamax or one of the other drugs with the same basic ingredient, like Boneva, Actonel, etc. These are like drinking drain cleaner as far as digestive systems are concerned, and they are BAD for your bones. The doctor will tell you that in studies, after 5 years, the people taking Fosamax had bones that were thicker and heavier than the controls (those that got a placebo), and that’s true. Doctors think that because they didn’t actually read the studies, just the bottom line. The studies showed that those “thicker, heavier bones” were in much worse shape, and more likely to fracture than the controls. They were riddled with microfractures, and a break just waiting to happen.
What can really help build up bones is progesterone cream. You can get this over the internet or possibly from your local vitamin shop.
Here’s a link: http://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals-Natural-Progesterone-Cream-4-oz-113-4-g/4377?at=0
This is the stuff I use. The link takes you to the cheapest stuff I’ve found on line or anywhere. I use almost two jars a month. You need to rub on a liberal amount 3 or 4 times a day. Each time, rub it on different spots, and you should rub it on “smooth skin” such as the insides of your arms or legs, stomach, buttocks, etc., especially if there’s a fat layer under the skin. It is absorbed through the skin and gets stored in the fat layer, where it is slowly disbursed into the bloodstream over the next 3 or 4 hours.
There’s a lot more info on this, but I have to be somewhere right away and don’t have time to write. Feel free to ask questions.
You need to find her a book on Osteoporosis that tells about progesterone cream.
I’m shocked that nurses would treat her badly. Doctors really couldn’t care less if they kill you, just so long as you pay and don’t sue, but nurses are usually excellent!
I hope you’re feeling better soon, too.
@lostarts - Thanks for the info on the progesterone cream. I will pass this on to my mom and also read about it myself.
I can tell you from experience that it is very helpful, but that both your mother and you should read up on it so you know what you’re doing. Also, you shouldn’t take anyone’s word for medical things. Do some research yourself.
But I have to tell you that the progesterone cream is not only helping my bones, but it’s also making me feel much better in general. It’s excellent stuff.
By the way, I showed the jar of cream to my doctor, and she said she couldn’t prescribe anything better. She said it’s really wonderful stuff!
Merry Christmas!
